Bassie and Adriaan go on holiday to Greece. They want to rest from 'catching criminals' in the Netherlands. During a dive in the sea during a tour in Crete, Bassie finds a stone with mysterious signs. Bassie and Adriaan will try to find out what the signs mean, with the help of Robin, who is temporarily staying with Danny Verbiest in Belgium. They fax Robin a copy of the stone so he can decipher it. Meanwhile, the Baron, B2 and Quick Japie have escaped from prison and fled to Greece. There, by a stupid coincidence, they encounter their greatest enemies: Bassie and Adriaan. The criminals eavesdrop on Bassie and Adriaan and spy on them, which also causes them to find out about the mysterious stone. The crooks think this stone leads to treasure and makes them the richest men in the world. But the stone is in Bassie's possession. The crooks try to steal it and find the treasure, so Bassie has to guard the stone extra carefully. Once the criminals even manage to kidnap Bassie and Adriaan and leave them on an uninhabited island just off the coast of Crete and get the stone, but the two are able to escape. A little bit Little by little, more pieces of the stone are translated. Ultimately, the solution to the mystery seems to lie on the island of Rhodes, but they find nothing here. Bassie and Adriaan lure the criminals into a trap there with the help of two dolls that look exactly like them. This makes it seem like they are everywhere at once, driving the crooks so crazy that they eventually turn themselves in at the police station. This also gives them the stone back. Back in Belgium at Danny's house, the signs on the stone were deciphered with the help of a computer program that Danny bought for Robin. Using the stone, they must read the spell that has been deciphered out loud. The full translated text reads: You don't have to be a wise man or have power. You don't have to possess the power that destroyed Thira or be as great as the colossus of Rhodes. You only need three things and if you have them, you are the richest person in the world. Read these words one after the other and the stone will give the answer. The spell ignites the stone and new letters are formed that reveal the greatest treasure in the world: freedom, health and happiness.
