The Gerrit Rietveld Academy is a small-scale, independent, internationally oriented college for Visual Arts and Design in Amsterdam. Artistic expertise from many different angles comes together here.
There are three buildings on the site. The oldest building was designed by the architect and furniture designer Gerrit Rietveld. He died in 1964, when construction had just begun and did not live to see the completion in 1967.
