The Norwegian series La Palma on Netflix is a four-part series that revolves around a volcanic eruption on the Canary Island of La Palma. The story follows a Norwegian family who, during their holiday on the island, are suddenly confronted with the threat of an eruption. At the same time, young scientist Marie discovers alarming signs that a huge tsunami is threatening due to a collapsing part of the volcano, which could have global consequences.
The series, directed by Kasper Barfoed and written by Harald Rosenløw Eeg and Lars Gudmestad, features well-known Norwegian actors such as Thea Sofie Loch Næss and Anders Baasmo.
Filming took place before and after the actual eruption of Cumbre Vieja in 2021, which adds an extra dimension to the fictional story. Out of respect for the local population, filming has been temporarily halted.
