On the tour through America, Bassie and Adriaan drive through the Death Valley. A desert where it is sweltering hot. Bassie drains water from the car's cooling system, preventing them from driving any further. Without water, they look for help in the heat. They come to a lake with very bad water (bath water). They are eventually rescued by a bus with Dutch tourists.
