En Nouvelle-Zélande, près de l'image Matamata, le plateau de tournage des Hobbits a été construit. Un grand ensemble de Hobbiton et The Shire a été construit ici pour les films du Seigneur des Anneaux. Le même décor a été reconstruit sur ce site pour les films Hobbit. Après le tournage, le plateau n'a pas été démoli mais sert désormais d'attraction touristique.
