In Nuova Zelanda, vicino al quadro Matamata, è stato costruito il set cinematografico degli Hobbit. Un grande set di Hobbiton e The Shire è stato costruito qui per i film de Il Signore degli Anelli. Lo stesso set è stato ricostruito su questo sito per i film di Hobbit. Dopo le riprese, il set non è stato demolito ma ora funge da attrazione turistica.
